According to the Common Ground Alliance, there are over 500,000 subsurface utility strikes across the nation each year. Strikes on buried assets cause billions of dollars in damage, negatively impact public safety, and tragically kill numerous irreplaceable workers.
Unfortunately, over the past 5 years, utility strikes nationwide have continued to increase year over year. Other than failure to call 811 one call centers before digging, the root causes of utility strikes include but are not limited to:
- one call center utility locator error including unmarked and/or mismarked underground utilities,
- failure to locate and mark, or mismarking, abandoned underground facilities, and
- overwhelmed one call center locators often will not mark on private property beyond the utility meter leading to a site being marked, but incomplete at damage locations.

SiteQuest Services’ highly skilled staff are equipped with the newest state-of-the-art utility locating equipment and are trained by the world-renowned Staking University. Most utility locators on the east coast are trained “on the job.” We make the extra effort to train our staff to show our customers that we have mastered the principles and applied the techniques required for obtaining certification in utility locating competency.
Damage prevention should also be a focus of your business to ensure your valued employees go home to their families each day, every day.

The Radiodetection utility locator transmitter and receiver sets are advanced tools designed for accurately detecting and tracing underground utilities, offering a range of technical capabilities to facilitate efficient and precise utility locating tasks. From identifying buried cables and pipes to mapping out their pathways, the Radiodetection utility locator system provides utility professionals with the necessary tools to perform their tasks effectively and safely.
The transmitter component of the Radiodetection system generates electromagnetic signals that are transmitted onto metallic / conductive components of underground utilities, allowing them to be detected and traced using the receiver. The transmitter offers a range of signal frequencies and power outputs, enabling users to customize the signal strength and frequency to match specific utility types and soil conditions. This flexibility ensures optimal signal penetration and detection accuracy across a variety of utility locating scenarios. Understanding the optimal techniques and frequencies to use in any given scenario takes training in underground utility competency, required by all SiteQuest locating professionals, and experience.
One of the key features of the Radiodetection transmitter is its ability to generate both direct connection and inductive signals. Direct connection methods involve physically connecting the transmitter to the utility using conductive leads or clips, while inductive methods induce signals into a utility by placing the transmitter directly over the utility being located. This dual functionality allows SiteQuest’s trained locating professionals to choose the most appropriate method based on the accessibility and type of utility being located, enhancing versatility and efficiency in utility locating tasks.
The Radiodetection transmitter offers advanced signal processing features such as dynamic overload protection and automatic signal optimization. These features help maintain signal integrity and stability in challenging electromagnetic environments, ensuring consistent and reliable performance even in the presence of interference or background noise. As a result, locators can achieve accurate and efficient utility locating outcomes with minimal risk of signal distortion or loss.
The receiver component of the Radiodetection system is equipped with sophisticated signal processing and detection capabilities to accurately locate and trace underground utilities. The receiver features multiple detection modes, including peak, null, and continuous modes, allowing users to choose the most suitable mode for their specific locating requirements. These detection modes offer flexibility and precision in pinpointing utility locations, whether tracing buried cables, pipes, or other conductive assets.
Another key feature of the Radiodetection receiver is its high-resolution digital display, which provides real-time visual feedback of detected signals and utility locations. The display offers intuitive graphical representations of signal strength, polarity, and depth, enabling users to interpret and analyze locating data quickly and effectively. This visual feedback enhances user confidence and efficiency in utility locating tasks, allowing for more informed decision-making and precise utility mapping.
Overall, the Radiodetection utility locator transmitter and receiver system offer a comprehensive suite of technical capabilities to meet the demanding requirements of utility locating professionals. With advanced signal generation, modulation, and processing features, this system enables accurate, efficient, and reliable detection and tracing of underground utilities, helping to enhance safety, minimize excavation risks, and streamline utility management processes.
